Why say no to bottled water?The Bottled Water Industry - Some little known facts:
In recent decades consumers have turned en masse to buying bottled water. However bottled water may not be as pure as it is marketed to be. Such water may often be little more than reconstituted tap water - and that's a fact. Sometimes it's less healthy & lower in quality that normal tap water. Regardless of it's quality, does it really justify 1000% price increase from tap water?
• It can take up to 400 years for a plastic bottle to biodegrade
• The total amount of water used to produce and deliver one bottle of imported water is 6,74kg
• A bottle that holds one litre requires five litres of water in its manufacturing process
• PET Plastic South Africa said about 79 000 tonnes of plastic was used anually to manufacture plastic bottles worlwide (Read Mail & Guardian - September 2010)
• America alone used over 17 million barrels of oil to produce plastic for bottled water in 2006
